Future Teachers of America (FTA)

To help SCCC students succeed in becoming teachers, Seattle Central Teacher Training/Education Programs is partnering with school districts, universities and state agencies including Seattle Public Schools, Professional Educator Standards Board, Green River Community College, University of Washington (Seattle), Antioch University, Seattle Pacific University, City University, and Western Washington University.

The FTA program is especially interested in enrolling students of diverse ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as males, who are underrepresented in the field of education.

These institutions and agencies have committed to providing diverse FTA students who meet minimum criteria with various enrollment incentives such as a seamless associate to bachelor’ s degree curriculum transfer, tuition scholarships, personalized transfer advising, dual SCCC/University credit agreements etc.

The Seattle Central Teacher Training/Education office enrolls, screens & tracks students, linking them with university representatives & education specific opportunities and scholarships. Students are advised to connect early with university representatives and to meet regularly for the duration of the program. The office also helps students be aware of deadlines for scholarship programs and access SCCC campus resources when they need assistance.

Students need to maintain at least a 3.0 or better (preferably higher) within the SCCC Associate in Elementary Education degree program, in order to enroll in the program & be competitive for transfer admission to the university.
